A copy <br />of a letter from the City of Pueblo accompanies this statement. This <br />particular section of Fountain Creek is immediately adjacent to the <br />main downtown business district, and last flooded in June 1965. For- <br />tunately it did not crest into the downtown an~a. hut caused millions <br />of dollars of damage to a residential area on the other side of the <br />river. When completed. this Project will not only prevent such costly <br />and dehwnanizing floods, but also enhance the environmental beauty <br />and recreation potentials along Interstate 25, which is traveled by <br />people from throughout the United States. <br /> <br />John Martin 0 & M-----u--------------~----------h-----$1. 092 million <br /> <br />Trinidad Lake 0 & M-------------------------------------$484,OOO <br /> <br />Mr. Chairman, and members of this distinguished Committee, we again want to thank <br />you for the sincere and dedicated manner in which you have permitted those of us who <br />deal in Water Resource Management on a day to day basis to appear before you to pre- <br />sent our recommendations regarding appropriations for Water Hesour'ce Pr'ojects in the <br />five Arkansas River Basin States. You, and your predecessors, can be very proud of <br />your record in appropriating necessary funds down through the years, which have creat- <br />ed dams, reservoirs, waterways, and other means of conveyance for necessary water <br />supplies, which have made the United States great.
