000585

.

.

, These contracts provide for a total delivery of about 593 megawatts this
summer, increasing to a total delivery of about 942 megawatts in the
summer of 1970. The winter delivery for the corresponding period is ex-
pected to be less and would be about 403 megawatts and 713 megawatts,
respectively. At present, conrrnitments have not been made for increased
delivery beyond March 1971.
Several contracts with preference customers remain in the active ne-
gotiation stage, representing an increase of 40-50 megawatts for the s~
mer of 1970 and about 25 megawatts for the 1970-71 winter totals. In addi-
tion to the firm power contracts, there are 19 Ehort-term contracts for
sale of nonfirm energy.

Most of the contracts are with the preference type customers which

are guaranteed the delivery of the contract amounts for a period of 20

years. Five of the customers are nonpreference, such as the Pacific Power

and Light Company, and these contracts are for shorter terms, usually 5

years. At the end of these short terms the contracts may be extended if
the available power is not required by preference customers.

Due to heavy summer loads in the Southern Division, the preference

customer market for firm power is presently somewhat higher in the summer
than in the winter. The imbalance between swmner and winter firm loads

will phase out as Northern Division loads come up to their share of capa-

bility. In the meantime, winter excess capacity will be used for Hoover

'd~iciencies, assistance to other projects, and to permit correction of

deficiencies inherent in new units as they are added at Fontenelle, Blue

Mesa, Morrow Point, Crystal, and Central utah.

4
