OOOS8~

.

.

system, namely, Series Capacitor Stations. These will be installed on the

345-kv Glen Canyon-Pinnacle Peak lines to improve system stability and

regulate flows over the high-voltage interconnected systems in Arizona.

Construction is expected to start early next year and be completed by 1970.

'{'
TRANSMISSION SYSTEM OPERATION

The interconnection of power systems of the East and West, which was

first made on February 7, 1967, continues to operate satisfactorily. Many

swings both east and west have occurred across the new ties as systems ex-

perience periods of imbalance between their own generation and load. Only

minor breaker operations have developed, however, and none of these have

caused outages to the ultimate consumer.

A vital link in the East-West tie is the 230-kv transmission line

from Hayden to Cheyenne (Archer). This line was broken on April 13 when

a severe snow' and ice storm coupled with high winds toppled seven steel

towers near Cheyenne. The failure caused a rerouting of East-West power

flows through other ties and some changes in schedule, but no interruptions
to service were caused b~;fhe failure. Replacement steel was obtained
from other Bureau construction and the line was returned to service within

three weeks.

it}
MARKErING OF CRSP POWER

Af3 of April 15, 1967, the Bureau had 77 contracts for the sale of firm

power including one contract recently completed with Intermountain Consumer

Power Association which superseded 19 individual customer contracts in Utah.

3
