The Salton Sea <br />Authority Board's support is conditional upon the adoption of similar resolutions of support from <br />Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Coachella Valley Water District, San Diego <br />County Water Authority, and the Imperial Irrigation District. The Salton Sea Authority Board's <br />resolution recognizes that there are critical deadlines for completion of specific actions associated <br />with implementation of the Q_SA. and that completion of environmental compliance associated with <br />these actions is required prior to December 31, 2002, <br /> <br />. California's Colorado River Water Use Plan <br /> <br />On July 10'", MWD's Board of Directors approved the principles ofa proposed water deal <br />with the PVID and farmers within its District entitled Principles of Agreement for a Land <br />Management, Crop Rotation and Water Supply Program with the Palo Verde Irrigation District <br />(Principles), MWD's approval of the Principles authorizes the funding for preparation of the <br />environmental documentation for the program as required under CEQA. <br /> <br />The Principles call for the development ofa flexible water supply from 25,000 up to 111,000 <br />acre-feet per year for 35 years through a land management and crop rotation program to be <br />implemented by participating farmers in the Palo Verde Valley, <br /> <br />The financial arrangements of the program include an up front payment (one-time sign-up <br />payment) to the landowner of $3,170 per acre up to 29 percent of their farmland, and an annual <br />payment of$550 per acre in any contract year it is not irrigated under the program, MWD, upon a <br />minimum of one-year notice, has the option to increase the non-irrigated acreage from 6,000 acres <br />up to a maximum of26,500 acres (approximately 29 percent of irrigated valley lands), <br /> <br />Basin StateslTen Tribes Discussion <br /> <br />Colorado River Delta Issues <br /> <br />As reported at the last meeting, the Basin states' representati ves discussed the need to <br />formally communicate to both Secretary of the Interior, Gale Norton and Secretary of State, Colin <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br />'" <br />
