DONOVAN. a partner in the San Francisco ornce. is a major contributor to <br />the development of Dames & Moore's capabilities in earthquake engineering and soil dynamics. This <br />development has included both testing procedures to evaluate the dynamic behavior of soils for <br />moduli. damping and loss of strength behavior: and analytical techniques where the soil behavior is <br />lIsed to evalu:Jte real engineering problems. Dr. Donovan's combination of random vibration theory <br />and probabilistic techniques in a procedure for evaluating the susceptibility of soils to liquefaction <br />has been successfully used on the Trans-Alaska pipeline. the world's largest construction project. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />He has worked on projects involving earthquake engineering and engineering seismology <br />throughout the world and is an acknowledged expert in the evaluation of seismic risk. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Dr. Donovan has authored many papers in his field of expertise and is presently playing a <br />major role in a project being sponsored by the National Science Foundation to develop new seismic <br />design procedures. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />His current position requires assumption of technical responsibility for the most complex <br />state-of-the-art projects that Dames & Moore undertakes in the specialized fields of earthquake <br />engineering, engineering seismology, and soil dYIl:J.l1lics. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Dr. Donovan is a licensed civil engineer in the state of Califomia. a Fellow of the American <br />Society of Civil Engineers. and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. and a member of the <br />Structural Engineers Association of Northern California.
