His 23 years of experience includes investigations for highways and
railroads, pipelines, tunnels, dams, power plants, mines and landslides.

Dr. Bukovansky has directed geotechnical studies for many highways and railroads in
Czechoslovakia. He was engaged in a feasibility study of the trans-Sahara road in Africa for the
United Nations Organization. For nearly tbree years, he was involved in engineering-geological and
rock mechanics studies for the construction of a toll-highway in Northern Spain for Euroestudios,
S.A. Madrid and individual contractors Ferrovial, S.A. and Laing Iberica, S.A. His work included
investigation for tbe highway, design of cuts and embankments, investigation for numerous
structures, design of anchored walls, and bolting and anchoring. Simultaneously he worked in
technical assistance for the contracton;, and managed a team of 7--8 engineers and geologists
devoted to the toll-highway construction. More recently he has directed the geotechnical investiga-
tion for roads in extremely unfavorable topographic and geologic conditions in western Colorado.

He directed geotechnical and rock mechanics investigations for rock cuts along the trans-
Alaska Pipeline and at the pipeline terminal at Valdez, Alaska. This work included investigation,
design of rock cuts. construction supervision, treatment of rock slides and failures, and extensive
lIse of rock bolting.

.:

His tunnel experience includes studies for Prague's proposed subway, numerous water
pressure tunnels and galleries in Czechoslovakia, He investigated ten twin highway tunnels in Spain
both for Euroestudios, Madrid and for Ministerio de Obras Publicas (Department of Transportation
of the Spanish Government), and several tunnels in the United States.

During his practice, Dr. Bukovansky investigated several hundred landslides. His studies have
included the investigation of slides, their analyses, design of remedial measures and their treatment.
These studies were performed in Czechoslovakia, Spain, Africa, in Colorado and other parts of the
U.S. Some of them were related to open pits such as the Chuquicamata and Exotica open pit mines
in Chile, Questa open pit mine in New Mexico and Lavender pit in Arizona.

He has supervised or acted as a team member during the investigation for about ten major
concrete dams (two arch dams) in Czechoslovakia and for several rockrill and earth dams in the
U ni ted S ta tes,

6.76
