<br />Annual Report For 1972 <br /> <br />The Frying-Pan Arkansas Project is nearing completion and the dam <br />at Pueblo will undoubtlj' be finished in the near future. Storage of water in <br />the Pueblo Dam' will be for transmountain water except when John Martin <br />Reservoir is filled. Provision is made for the storage of water used in <br />winter for direct irrigation by ditches in the conservancy district down- <br />stream, if they wish to take advantage of storage for later use. A charge <br />will be made for this storage as this service is a part of the repayment plan <br />Cor the Project. No estimate has been given as to the number of ditches <br />that will store winter water in the Pueblo Reservoir. <br /> <br />Winter now of Arkansas River at Pueblo was gauged at 90,500 aJ. The <br />upstream ditches again this year diverted generous quantities of water <br />for winter irrigation direct flow. District #14, 52,000 a.f. of which 10.000 <br />a.f. to 12,000 a.f. was stored. District #17. 150,000 as. of which 22,000 <br />a.f. was stored in the Great Plains through the Ft, Lyon. 128,000 a1, <br />was used on direct winter irrigation, 65,000 a.t. by the Ft. Lyon Cor direct <br />application. <br /> <br />A push Cor the Permanent Pool in John Martin Reservoir is still on. <br />The Fish and Game Department has acquired title to a substantial block <br />of stock in the Catlin Canal and hope to transfer the water derived there- <br />from to the John Martin Reservoir Cor a Permanent Pool. Stock holders <br />in the Catlin Canal are reluctant to permit this transfer and only time will <br />tell what can be done. <br /> <br />At the annual meeting of the Colorado-Kansas Compact Administration <br />~1r. Sparks of the Colorado Water Conservation Board made a request for <br />engineering help from Kansas to study the effect of moving this water from <br />the Catlin Canal dowll to a Permanent Pool in John .\-tartin Reservoir. <br /> <br />No rules and regulations have been submitted to water users regarding <br />the operation of John Martin Reservoir with a Permanent Pool, but some <br />plans must be adopted before a pool can be maintained in the Reservoir. <br /> <br />The Frying-Pan Arkansas project should be completed before long. <br />The Reservoir at Pueblo is not expected to store summer flows oi Arkansas <br />River Water except when John Martin is filled. The water users in the Con- <br />servation District have the opportunity to store water in the Reservoir which <br />the,>, now use for direct irrigation in the winter months. The Reclamation <br />Bureau would like to get early committments for water storage as this is <br />part of the repayment plan for the project. The Amity lands are not in the <br />conservancy district but Amit,}' has storage rights on the river water in <br />the Great Plains Reservoir and the.y are concerned with storage of winter <br />flows. <br /> <br />Page 4 <br />
