<br />Updating of the 1960 Conservation Needs Inventory was completed during <br />the year and will be available in summary form for each state in the <br />near future. Only those projects can be appro~ed in which the Federal con- <br />tribution to construction is less than $250,000 and that do not require <br />the concurrence of Congressional Committees. With this limitation <br />being imposed only the "Mott" project in Hetcinger County, North Dakota, <br />has been approved for operations during the year. <br /> <br />Applications for Resource Conservation and Development projects were <br />received from the "North Dakota First" covering Grant, Sioux, Morton, <br />Oliver and Mercer Counties. Applications for the "Black Hills" <br />project in South Dakota and Wyoming and the "Bear Tooth" project in <br />Montana were amended to include additional land. In September 196B, <br />the "Black Hills" project ",as auchorized tor detailed planning <br />assistance. Land acquiaition was <br />initiated for the Pipestem Dam project in North Dakota. <br /> <br />Survey reports for the Blue River in Kansas and Missouri, and the <br />Nishnabotna River in Iowa were completed and forwarded to the Chief <br />of Engineers during Fiscal Year 1968. <br /> <br />Flood damages during Fiscal Year 1968 amounted to $2,540,000. Damages <br />prevented by the main stern reservoirs amounted to $8,124,000, and by <br />local flood control projects Missouri River levee systems tributary <br />reservoirs $4,903,000.
