Embankment material for the dam can be secured from the reservoir area

within a maximum haul of one mile. ,Material suitable for the impervious

section C8.n be secured from the banks of both east and west Rifle Creeks.

Material suitable for the pervious section can be secured from the

upper area of the reservoir basin. Reservoir cost estimate, including

right-of-way and relocation of roads and utility lines, based on

January 1940 prices, is $1,189,000. See preliminary estimate drawing

Grass Valley Canal Improvement
The Grass Valley Canal of the Farmer's Irrigation Company is

5~ miles in length. Along its course the canal crosses a number of

weathered shale points where seepage losses are hiZh. It is planned

to improve the canal at such points by excavating shale matex-ial from

the wetted section of the canal and then lining it with clay which is

readily available in the immediate vicinity of the seepage sections.

This work, along with needed minor structures, based on January 1940

prices, is estimated to cost $26,000.
