1'-
C0
...~

PROJECT WORKS AND COST ESTIMATE

Project Works

The plan of development calls for Government construction of the

following:

A- A dam and appurtenant works for the impounding
of 10,000 acre-feet of water on Rifle Creek at
the Rifle Gap Reservoir site.

E- Improvements to the 5-} mile long Grass Valley
Canal for better service to project, and to
eliminate seepage losses from the canal.

C- Two laterals, one of 20 second-feet of capacity
and a second of 12 second-feet capacity, in Dry
Elk Valley each approximately four miles long to
serve new arable land in the valley.

D- Low head pumping facility at the Rifle Gap dam
for providing irrigation service to the Davie
Ditch during that part of the year water in the
reservoir will be too low for diversion by
gravity,

The reservoir will conserve the winter flow and spring high water

flood flow of Rifle Creek and make the sallle available for use on lower

Rifle Creek lands which hold the prior water rights of the Creek. With

lower Rifle Creek lands supplied from the reservoir, the flow of East

Rlfle Creek will largely be available for diversion by the Grass

Valley Canal to project lands.

Rifle Gap Reservoir
The Rifle Gap Dam will be a rolled earth fill structure. A concrete

lined tunnel through the right abutment will convey the flow of Rifle

Creek during const~~ction. After construction a 36" emergency gate will

be installed in a gate chamber and a 39" steel pipe will convey water

to two 20" segmental jet valves for controlling discherge. The spill-

way will be an open uncontrolled concrete lined channel on the left
