The target schedule for the Colorado River Basin
salinity control program as presented to the Council, by
USDA, at its September 1980 meeting should be maintained
and expedited whenever possible.
It is further recommended that the USDA should include

on-farm salinity control measures as a separate line item

in its budgetary process for each of.its involved agencies.
In order to carry out the schedule as proposed, total USDA
funding of $17.2 million is needed for fiscal year 1982 for

planning; technical assistance; education, research and

demonstration and federal cost sharing. However, considering
existing budgetary constraints, .the Council recommends
appropriations of about $10.5 million be included in the
FY 1982 USDA budget.

Bureau of Land Management
The Council appreciates the Bureau's acknowledgement
of the problems of salt contribution from public lands and

-9-

-",.'.,,, ~
