.

.

.

OJJ138

2.9 INSTALLATION AND SYSTEM START UP

A Sierra/Mis co field engineer will be on site for a two week period to
start up the system during the first phase of installation.

This system start up includes the complete installation of the two base
stations and National Weather Service Remote Terminal as well as
coordination and training on the installation and maintenance of all remote
equipment.

The base station installation and test will be accomplished in the first
three days of the start up period. The fourth day will be used to test all
remote site transmitters and repeaters and to prepare for remote site
installations. The remaining six days will be spent installing remote
gauges and repeaters.

2.9.1 Base Station Installation

Sierra/Mis co will provide materials and equipment for the installation of
the two base stations. We recommend that the personnel responsible for the
ongoing maintenance of the system participate in the base station
installations. Their participation will serve as a training on the
operation and basic troubleshooting of the base station equipment. This
training is a valuable component in understanding the overall system
operation. Local participation in the base installation will also be more
cost effective as it will eliminate the need for a second Sierra/Misco
field engineer on site. A second field engineer is included in the price
proposal as an option in case the Regional Building Department chooses not
to have any of their personnel participate in the base installations.

The base station installation materials includes all cables for connecting
equipment, a six socket AC power strip, and hardware for top mounting the
08224 antenna. Installation materials do not include a fixture for
mounting the antenna (such as antenna tower) or antenna cables over 60'
(cable runs over 60' require a heavier low loss cable). If the antenna is
to be side mounted on a tower the optional DB5001 side mount kit is
required.

The base station installations will include a half day basic training on
the Enhanced ALERT Software to familiarize operations with the basic data
display commands. This will enable them to monitor remote gauge
performance during the installation period prior to the complete software
training.

2.9.2 Remote Site Coordination

Following the installation of the base station, work will begin on the
installation of the remote site equipment. The first step will be to test
the operation of all transmitters and repeaters prior to taking them in the
field. During the time that the Sierra/Misco field engineer is on site
supervising installation, approximately eight remote sites will be
