DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY <br />CORPS OF ENGINEERS <br />SEMIANNUAL REPORT <br />(January- J,une 1979) <br />TO PACIFIC SOUTHWEST INTER-AGENCY COMMITTEE <br />FOR 79-2 MEETING <br /> <br />CONSTRUCTION 'PROGRAM: <br /> <br />. . <br />1. New Melones Dam, California. The dam was dedicated on 14 July 1979, <br />Arrangements for the formal transfer of project to the USBR for O&M are <br />being made; the transfer is tentatively scheduled for 22 August 1979. <br />New Melones Dam, Spillway and Intake Structure were jointly inspected by the <br />District and Bureau of Reclamation on 27 and 28 June 1979. The contract <br />for this portion of the project is 99 percent complete. Powerhouse contract <br />is essentially complete with generators No.1 and No.2 "on line" in June <br />1979. Basic operational tests are completed and only minor changes remain <br />to be done. Land acquisition program for New Melones Project upstream of <br />the dam is 99 percent complete. Approximately six small tracts remain to be <br />acquired in the upper reaches of the reservoir. Parrotts Ferry Road contract <br />was completed in June 1979. <br /> <br /> <br />California. Construction of the dam and <br />e outlet tunnel excavation <br />and embankm~nt placement are in progress. Completion of the dam is now <br />scheduled for April 1983. On 20 October 1978, a contract for the fish <br />hatchery was awarded. Completion date for the fish hatchery is Fall of <br />1980. <br /> <br />3. Walnut Creek Flood Control Project, California. The placement of the first <br />phase, 1,750 feet of rock-lined trapezoidal channel, on Lower Pine Creek was <br />completed in 1978. A portion of the second phase, concrete lining to the <br />Clayton Road crossing, is under construction. Work on the Design Memorandum <br />for the remaining reaches of Walnut' Creek is scheduled to start in November <br />1979. <br /> <br />4. Tijuana River, California. The construction contract was completed for <br />the U.S. part of the International Tijuana River flood control project for which <br />the Los Angeles District was the design and construction agent for the U.S. <br />Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission. <br /> <br />5. Cucamonga Creek Channel, California. The fifth construction contract <br />for Cucamonga Creek Channel, Ontario International Airport to Foothill <br />Boulevard, and Cucamonga Creek debris basin was initiated. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />c..26 <br /> <br />""-~~'''''':-:-;i.I';''.'''''''''::-_ '.'
