<br /> <br />Plans are underway to establish a soil survey staff that will <br />map soils in the study area. Work is expected to begin about <br />October 1, 1979. <br /> <br />Virain River Basin Salinity Study <br /> <br />Field inventories were conducted in May to assess the environ- <br />mental features that would be effected by any project actions. <br /> <br />On farm field inventories of irrigated lands were completed in <br />March 1979. These inventories sre currently being used by the <br />Nevada Staff to run the IRMA Program. <br /> <br />Arizona Statewide Aaricultural Model <br /> <br />A draft plan of work has been developed and reviewed by the <br />WTSC, FS and ESCS. C01lllllents received from this review are <br />currently being incorporated into the plan of work. <br /> <br />~IFORNIA: Sacramento Valley Basin Study <br /> <br />A. Special Study lA-Water Quality Plannina <br /> <br />The final report "Reco1lllllended Plan of Best Management <br />Practices for Reduction of Agricultural Sedilllent, Central <br />Valley Region" is expected to be released in late August <br />1979. The study was conducted for the Central Valley <br />Regional Water Quality Control Board, and the results are <br />being incorporated into their areawide water quality manage- <br />ment plan to the Environmental Protection Agency in connection <br />with Section 208 of Public Law 92-500, the Federal Water <br />Pollution Control Act of 1972. The main emphasis was to <br />develop Best Management Practices for the solution to erosion <br />and sedilllent problems from agricultural sources. <br /> <br />In addition to the main report, five mini-reports for each <br />of the eight pilot study areas are being finalized: <br /> <br />(1) Resources Capabilities Affecting Sedimentation (basic <br />data) <br />(2) Sources of Sediment <br />(3) Alternative Management Practices <br />(4) Comparision of Alternate Management Practices <br />(5) Recommended Plan <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />C-16 <br />
