-

I~

'e
c

Valley Irrigation District, Schuk Toak District, and San Xavier Reservation;
the internal distribution system for the city of Tucson; and the facilities
to the mines, Farmers Investment Company, and to municipalities south of
the San Xavier Indian Reservation.

Conceptual wildlife mitigation measures such as fencing canals, crossings
over canals, and alternate watering sites have been included as part of the
plans. At the present time specific quantities and locations have not been
determined but will be after the proposed action is identified.

West Side

The West Side Plan, figure 1, uses an aqueduct alignment located primarily
on the west side of the Tucson Mountains. This plan would be mostly open
canal with six pumping plants to lift the water from the beginning of the
Phase B aqueduct (2,040 feet) to the city of Tucson's proposed water treat-
ment plant (2,800 feet) and to the south boundary of the San Xavier Indian
Reservation (2,BOO feet). Both the water treatment plant site and the
south boundary of the San Xavier Indian Reservation have been recommended
by CATS as termini. Along the portion of the canal through Avra Valley,
three turnouts would be provided for the Avra Valley Irrigation District.
About 1 mile north of the Papago Reservation area, cORlllonly called the
Garci a Strip, a turnout woul d be provi ded for the Schuk Toak Oi stri ct of
the Papago Reservation. From this turnout a canal would be constructed to
the reservation. At the south boundary of the San Xavier Indian Reserva-
tion, a turnout would be provided for the San Xavier Indian Reservation,
the town of Green Valley, the mines, Farmers Investment Company, and the
city of Nogales.

East Side

The East Side Plan, figure 2, is an aqueduct alignment located primarily on
the east side of the Tucson Mountains. This plan would contain pipe and
canal sections with four pumping plants to lift the water to Tucson's pro-
posed Water Treatment Plant and to the south boundary of the San Xavier

4
