o
--.1
Ul
tJ:>o

on the reservation and which are not hazardous as
drinKing water for livestock.

..

Wetlands - To maintain and restore natural wetland
characteristics and functions, within the natural range
of v~riation of the affected wetland. This designation
pertains only to natural wetlands and does not include those
wetlands that were constructed for environmental
remediation. Created Wetlands as defined in section III, (H)
shall be subject only to the narrative standards set forth
in section V unless the Tribal Council has adopted, after
public hearing, the Wetlands classification and appropriate
numeric standards.

(B) Qualifiers

The following qualifiers may be appended to any designation
to indicate special considerations. Where a qualifier applies, it
will be appended to'the use designation; for example, "Class 1,
Warm Water ,Aquatic Life (Goal)".

(1) Goal -A qualifier which indicates that the waters are
presently not fully suitable but are intended to become
fully suitable for the designated use. "Goal" will be
used to indicate that a temporary modification for one or
more of the underlying numeric criteria has been
granted.

(2) Seasonal - A qualifier which indicates that the water may
only be suitable for a designated use during certain
periods of the year. During those periods when water is
in the stream, the criteria specified for the designated
use sha!ll apply.

(3) Interrupted Flow - A qualifier which indicates that due to
natural or human induced conditions the continuity of flow is
broken not necessarily according to a seasonal schedule. This
qualifier appended to a designation indicates that the flow
conditions still permit the designated use during periods of
flow. T~e presence of water diversions in a stream does not
change the designations and criteria and the criteria do not
require 'that flow be maintained in the stream.

(C) Areas Requiring Special Protection

In special cases where protection of designated uses requires
criteria not provided by the normal water quality
requirements above, special criteria may be assigned after
public notice and hearing. Cases where special protection may
be necessary, include but are not limited to wildlife
preserves and water bodies endangered by eutrophication.

A

-,]

j

,9
?

I

;\

9
