Procedures will be tested with actual data, to determine a

suitable method.

Water Budgets for Treated Areas

Water budgets will be developed for the total area treated under the salinity

control program for both Grand Valley and the Uinta Basin. This requires the

extrapolation of the onfarm water budgets to the treated area. A procedure for

extrapolating the data will be developed by the West Nationa.l Technical Center

with the assistance of the states and issued as a supplement. to this document.

It is envisioned that two water budgets will be developed: one for improved

irrigation and the other for the baseline condition. The dIfference in deep

percolation between the two water budgets will show the change that has taken

place for the improved area. This change in deep percolation, expressed in

acre-feet, can then be translated Into a salt load reduction.

28
