<br />which the lands are located, and Federal Uepartments and agencies
<br />concerned; and such officers or Federal agencies shall be invited
<br />to submit their vie~ls on the proposed action at the hearing or
<br />in writinll by not later than 30 days followinn the date of the
<br />hearing. Any views submitted in response to such advice with
<br />respect to any pronosed Wilderness action shall be included
<br />with any recommendations to the President and to the Congress
<br />with respect to any such action. .

<br />Section 293.6 - Commercial Enternrises, Roads, r10tor Vehicles, ~~otorized
<br />Equipment, MotorEOats, Aircraft, Aircraft LandinfJ Facilities, Airdr~, .
<br />Structures, and Cuttino of Trees
<br />
<br />Except as provided in the Wilderness Act, subsequent legislation estahlish-
<br />ing a particular Wilderness unit, or Sections 251.27, 251.28, 251.30
<br />251.75(c) and (d), 251.76, 251.77, and 251.81 throufJh 251.85, inclusive,
<br />of these renulations, and subject to existin., riohts, there shall be in
<br />National Forest Wilderness no commercial enternrises; no temnorary or
<br />permanent roads, no aircraft landinq strins, no heliports or helispots;
<br />no use of motor vehicles, motorized eouipment, motorboats, or other forms
<br />of mechanical transoort: no landinq of aircraft; no dropping of materials,
<br />supplies, or persons from aircraft; no structures or installations; and
<br />no cuttino of trees for non-wilderness nurposes. '

<br />a. "Mechanical transport," as herein used, shall include any con-
<br />trivance which travels over qround, snow, or water on wheels,
<br />tracks, skids, or by flotation and is propelled by a nonliving
<br />power source contained or carried on or within the device.
<br />
<br />b. "Motorized eQuinment," as herein used, shall include any machine
<br />activated by a nonlivinll power source, except that small battery-
<br />powered, hand-carried devices such as flashlights, shavers, and
<br />Geiner counters are not classed as motorized enuip~ent.
<br />
<br />c. The Chief, Forest Service, ~ay authorize occupancy and use of
<br />National Forest land by officers, enlployees. anencies, or agents
<br />of the Federal, State, and county novernments to carry out the
<br />purposes of the ~ilderness Act and will nrescribe conditions
<br />under which motorized eouipment, mechanical transport, aircraft,
<br />aircraft landino strips, heliports, helispots, installations,
<br />or structures may be used, transported, or installed by the
<br />Forest Service and its afJents and by other Federal, State, or
<br />county aoencies or their agents, to meet the minimum renuirements
<br />for authorized activities to nrotect and administer the 'Wilder-
<br />ness and its resources. The Chief may also prescribe the
<br />conditions under which such enuipment, transport, aircraft,
<br />installations, or structures mav be used in emergencies involvinn
<br />the health and safety of person.s ,damane to oronerty, or other .
<br />purposes.
