Fryingpan-
Arkansas Project - Colorado

'The United States Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) is currently preparing an Environmental
Assessment (EA) on an amendment to an easement with Pueblo West Metropolitan District
(Pueblo West) to construct, operate, and maintain River Pump Station No, 2, 36-1nch raw water
pipeline, diversion and intake structure, and emergency standby generator below Pueblo Dam
(Affected area: NE Y. Section 36, SE Y. and NW 'I. of Section 25, SW Y. of Section 24, E Y, of
Section 23 and Section 14, T20N, R66W, 6lhpM) (See Attachment ]),

,Currently, Pueblo West relies on the pump station located Y. mile downstream of Pueblo Dam on,
the north bank of the Arkansas River., The existing pump station pumps up to 12 million gallons
per day (MGD) of water from Pueblo Dam's South Outlet Works into the 24-inch pipeline that
connects to the Pueblo West's Water Treatment Plant. The existing pipeline is approximately
4 miles long. Additionally, Pueblo West has a riprap diversion structure (diversion structure),
which helped to accommodate temporary pumps placed in the river, , '

The proposed action is to amend an existing easement wjth Pueblo West to permit the
construction, maintenance, and operation of anew river pump station with a maximum designed
, pumping capacity of approximately 18 MGD to supplement the existing pump station capacity of
approximately l2,MGD. The new river pump station would be constructed approximately'
1/4 mile downstream of Pueblo Dam near the existing pump station, The new river pump station
would pump water from the Arkansas River into a new 36-inch pipeline that would generally be
laid adjacent to the existing 24-inch pipeline. The new pipeline would be approximately
20,805 linear feet and would be completely buried. Approximately 3,945 linear feet of the
pipeline would be constructed across Reclamation property.

"'!Ill;
