For purposes of this analysis, the Animas River has been divided into seg- ments, with estimates of virgin streamflows made for each segment. The follow- ing is a description of the river segments, together with information concerning the drainage basin characteristics for each segment: . Segment 1 - Just downstream from the Citizens Animas Ditch diversion point to the Animas River at Cedar Hill gage. The Citizens Animas Ditch diver- sion is located in Section 1, Township 33 North, Range 10 West, about nine miles south of Durango. Inflow in this segment is contributed by I the following. . Reference is made to the enclosed "Florida River Hydrology Analysis" for information concerning historic and virgin flow conditions of the Florida River. Return flows from irrigation on the Florida Mesa enter the Animas River in Segment 1. The water supply for the Florida Mesa irrigation is diverted from the Florida River. . Segment 2 - Just downstream from the East Mesa Ditch diversions point to the Citizens Animas Ditch diversion point. The Mesa Ditch diversion is located in Section IS, Township 34 North, Range 9 West, about five miles south of Durango. Inflow in this segment is contributed by about 26 square miles of drainge area along the Animas River with a mean elevation of 6800 feet. The average annual precipitation in the tributary . -6- .
