include a butterfly valve at the end of each lateral. These valves are for iso-

1ation and are not to be used for throttling purposes.

It should be noted that lateral 716 has some additional isolation but-

terfly valves which were installed by the contractor for testing purposes.

c. Conveyance Channel

The normal canal operation will be to maintain normal water surface at

all the gate-check and water control structures in the system. Installation of

stop logs in certain road crossing structures may be necessary to maintain suf-
ficient water depth to protect the lining when operating tile project at very low

yields. It is necessary to maintain near normal water surface at check struc-

tures at all times to protect lining. In addition, large rapid water surface
changes must be minimized as sloughing may occur to the canal lining cover
material. These factors become critical during power outages and project shut-
down. Generators will be usea to power selected wells to maintain the water

levels in the canal as required when power outages occur.

During project shutdowns, a minimum flow will be maintained through

the canal system. This flow will enter at various laterals along the canal

beginning upstream of the check structure at County Road G in Stage 4 and pass

through the system to maintain water levels. This minimum flow is necessary to

make up for losses and check structures leakage in the 42-mi1e canal system.

d. Observa ti on We 11 s

r ""' ~... However, during adverse conditions anal-

yses will be performed more frequently. The ground water model will be run at

13
