....~..h....r-~. ,
. ""~" . ~ .

5405

.

E. Vegetation

Plant variety and stratification are greatest in the riparian
association. Revegetation of the riparian association would take
longer than that of the short grass prairie.

Riparian vegetation is sparse where the conduit crosses the
Arkansas River. Not as much vegetation would he removed at the
crossing compared to the amount removed at the oiversion site of
the former alinement. The primary adverse impact '<QuId he at
Fountain Creek.

Revegetation of the whole conduit alinement would take a longer
period before full recovery is reached. The scars of the trench
would remain apparent because of the absence, or Dresence, of
immature vegetation.

F. Wildlife

The least mobile and fossorial wildli~e should be effected during
construction of the conduit. These species could .be displaced due
to the loss of habitat. They could return after the conduit is
installed, but species located where the surge tanks, terminal tanks,
and pumping plants are placed would be permanently displaced. ~he
migration of terrestrial wildlife through the conduit area luuld
be temporarily interrupted.

.

G. Fisheries

There would be no unavaid8hle adverse effects on the fisheries of
the Arkansas River, Fountain Creek and Pueblo Res~rvoir except for an
undetermined fish loss through the intake structure of the conduit.

H. Recreation

The proposed alinement will interfere
the Arkansas River below Pueblo Dam.
undeveloped, except for acceSS roads.

with the fishing access to
This area is presently

I. Special Aesthetic Values

The proposed alinement has a surge tank adjacent to the Liberty
Point Park and to some residences. Although the tank will be
colored, its configuration will not be totally compatible ,nth the
immediate surroundings.

VI-2

.
