.

5406

There are nearly 15 miles of rock blasting anticipated to 1nstall
the conduit. Some straight-line scarring of the vegetation ~nd
landscape will be incurred from the construction of "he conduit.
Dust will be stirred up by construction vehicles uSing existing
dirt roads for acceSs to the construction sites.

J. Cultural Resources

The cultural resources survey of the proposed alinement" revealed roo
absence of archeologic and historic sites. However, unknown sites
may be encountered during construction. These sites may he rlestroyed
from the construction activity or the testing of significant sites.

K. Land Use and Ownership

Nearly 30 acres will be purchased in fee title and used permanently
for surge tanks, terminal tanks, pump plants, and aCcess roads.
These changes in land ownership and use will cause long-term
inconveniences, hardships and nuisances to the present owners.

About 9.1 miles of the alinement is classifien as rangelands and
will be temporarily out of production until the conduit is completed.
This will be an inconvenience and possibly result in a revenue loss
to the present lsnd owners.

.

L. Socio-Economic Characteristics

There may be an adverse economic effect on the real estate values
in the immediate vicinity of the conduit particularly in the
Liberty Point area. The lower value of real estate may be rlue to
the presence of the surge tanks, terminal tanks and the construction
activity.

"------M;--Othet impacts

Energy - About 1,800,000 gallons of fuel, 35,000 gallons of lubricants
will be used in construction, and about 55,000,000 kilowatt hours of
base load fossil fuel energy per year will be consumed to operate
the pumps. This energy will be irretrievably committed and will
preclude any opportunity to use it for other purposes.

VI-3

.
