During the first activities <br /> <br />signup period, 109 applications were received from individual <br /> <br />land users and groups. Over $4 million will be needed to <br /> <br />fund salinity contracts with the applicants. Limited funds <br /> <br />allowed USDA to enter into only three salinity control <br /> <br />contracts in FY 88. <br /> <br />McElmo Creek Unit - SCS in cooperation with Reclamation, <br /> <br />the Montezuma Valley Irrigation District and land users are <br /> <br /> <br />identifying the best locations for the pipeline laterals <br /> <br />that will be installed under the Dolores project. <br /> <br />preliminary onfarm salinity control planning activities have <br /> <br />also been initiated with interested land users. USDA's McElmo <br /> <br />Project draft EIS was distributed for comment in May 1988. <br /> <br />SCS is presently addressing the comments received, and a <br /> <br />final EIS is scheduled to be published in FY 89. <br /> <br />Implementation of the USDA program is scheduled to begin in <br /> <br />1990. <br /> <br />Moapa Valley Unit - During the fiscal year, coordination <br /> <br /> <br />activities were initiated with interested agencies and local <br /> <br />land users. A monitoring and evaluation plan was prepared <br /> <br />and $46,500 was provided to initiate implementation of the <br /> <br />monitoring program. <br /> <br />Extension Service-Information and Education - The <br /> <br />Extension Service is responsible for development and <br /> <br />coordination of information and education program. Three <br /> <br />salinity projects now have extension agents located in the <br /> <br />-17- <br />
