11 - DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

2-01. Location. Pueblo Dam is located at river mile 1,293.7
on the Arkansas River, approximately 6 miles upstream from the
city of Pueblo in Pueblo County. Colorado. The project location is
shown on Plate 2-1.

2-02. Purpose. 1he Pueblo Dam and Reeervoir is the terminal
eastern slope storage feature of the Fryingpan - Arkansas Project.
It will provide supplemental irrigation water, flood control,
municipal and indue trial water. recreation. and fish and wildlife
enhancement.

2-03. Physical COmponenta. Pueblo Dam is an earthfill embank-
ment with a concrete massive head buttress spillway structure
with a total length of 10,240 feet.

a. Earth Dam Embankment. The right and left abutments
of Pueblo Dam are earthfill embanlonents and contain approximatelY
11,600.000 cubic yards of compacted earth. The right abutment
is between stations 2+70 and 51+78, and the left abutment is
between stations 69+28 and 105+l0. The Bessemer Ditch outlet
passes through the right abutment at station 29+77. The per-
tinent data for the abutments are shown in Table 2-1. The up-
stresm faces of the abutments are protected from wave action by
3 feet of rlprap on l8 inches of bedding. The rlprsp is reason-
ably well graded within the limits shawn in Table 2-2. A general
plan and sections of the embankments are shown on Platea 2-2 and
2"'3.
