<br />In Arizona, prospecting on the San Xavier Indian Reservation by the
<br />American Smelting and Refining Company has revealed substantial deposits
<br />of copper ore; a mine is proposed to be c;>pened on adjacent l,and. Pros-
<br />, pectdrilling by the Kerr-McGee Oil Industries on potash pennits in the
<br />Red Lake a.rea revealed a thiok deposit of salt. '

<br />In Utah, prospeot drilling ;for coking coal in the Ferron formation
<br />(upper Cretaoeous age) has been undertaken by two compa.n1es in the
<br />vioinity of Prioe. The formation is approximately 1,200 feet below
<br />land surface. In the Lisbon Valley area, SanJuan County, the Superior
<br />Oil Company is proSpeoting for potash deposits. This locality is about
<br />35 miles southeast of the Delhi-Taylor au Col'poration operations.

<br />In Nevada, several lease :ap:plications 'N'&, received for guano from
<br />limestone caverns ,nearEly. These deposits range from a few tons to
<br />several thousand tons, and are of marginal grade. Leases in the Overton
<br />area produced about 6,000 tons of silioa sand. No mineral p~ction
<br />was reported from the Lake Meade Recreation Area. In Nevada and
<br />California, 597 sodium -permits anct,.300 Potash permits were in foroe at
<br />the end of the year . Most of the interest appears to be in sodium
<br />bora. tes.

<br />solution mining of the trona. deposits in Sweetwater County. The
<br />Diamond-Alkali Company h<lS completed two oore holes tp, delineate the
