Other items of work <br />done include repairs to brine pumps, brine meter, lime slaker <br />feeders, regenerator rinse controllers. and other minor equipment. <br />In order to permit the installation of 20.inch service connections <br />for the cities of Los Angeles and Pasadena in February 1946, it <br />was necessary to shut off the flow of water west of La Verne to drain <br />the sections of line adjacent to the connections. Water was shut <br />off at Lake Mathews at 9 :00 p,m, on February 13 and turned on <br />again at 10 :30 p.m. on February 14, This shutdown presented an <br />opportunity to inspect facilities at several ]Joints hetween Lake <br />Mathews and Santa Monica with a minimum interruption of <br />service and waste of water. Members of both the field and office <br />forces were organized into several inspection parties so that as <br />much line as possible could be inspected in the limited time avail- <br />able. The following facilities were inspected: the outlet tower. <br />tunnel, and head works at Lake Mathews; sections of enamel-lined <br />steel pipe at Pedley Hills and at Dufferin Avenue and Van Buren <br />Street; various features of the softening and filtration' plant which <br />are not accessible when in operation; the cast-in-place Monrovia <br />Canyon crossing; the Monrovia No.4 tunnel; the section of precast <br />concrete pipe between Sierra Madre tunnel and Eaton Wash: the <br /> <br /> <br />;.
