Relocation of Conduit 10 to the east would incorporate
a section of Conduit 27 and would be consistent with long-
range planning. The sections of Conduit 10 would be a 48
inch line and that of Conduit 27 a 90 inch line. This al-
ternative will achieve the same results as the Corps plan but
will include elements of the Roxborough System. Cost of the
conduits, clearwell, and pumping station is estimated to be
$7,505,000. Since the head on the pumping station is much
higher, the annual operation and maintenance expenses of the
pumping station are estimated at $210,000.
d. Operation of the Infiltration Gallery on a "calculated
risk" basis or abandonment of the gallery. The gallery,
after construction of the Chatfield Project, will not be as
controlled as presently and will be subject to contamination
by substances not now a problem. The gallery could be lost
as a supply source due to these undesirable substances enter-
ing the porous strata.
Water lost by abandonment of the gallery will have to be
replaced as an incremental part of the next major water supply
project of the Board. Because of the availability of costs,
the Blue River Project has been used as a basis for determining
the incremental cost of water replacement. On this basis, re-

placement cost for the Infiltration Gallery water is estimated

to be $1,353,000. Operation and maintenance expenses of the

Board would be reduced about $6,440 annually if the gallery

is abandoned.

- 9 -
