.

.

~
~

pool. A surcharge pool with a capacity of 636,000 acre-feet will

~
~

be provi~e~. Of the total controlled capacity (973,185 acre-

feet), 475,000 acre-feet are exclusively for flood control,

75,000 acre-feet for joint flood control and irrigation, 373,025

acre-feet for irrigation, and 50,160 acre-feet for inactive and

dead capacity. Except for direct deliveries to the Fort ~organ

Canal, irrigation water from the reservoir will be delivered via

the South Platte River to the headgates of existing irrigation

systems. No irrigation distribution systems will be constructed.

Supplemental irrigation water will be supplied to irrigab1e

lands of the Lower South Platte Water Conservancy District

(consisting of 166,370 acres) and the Central Colorado Water

Conservancy District (consisting of about 120,700 acres). The

total water supply available for the project service areas will

average 157,500 acre-feet annually, of which 102,000 acre-feet

will be obtained from regulation of surplus steamf10w, 31,000

acre-feet from direct-flow rights associated with existing

irrigated lands to be inundated by ~arrows Dam and Reservoir, and

24,500 acre-feet of divertib1e return flows. Of this total water

supply, 133,000 acre-feet are salable project water at the outlet

works of Narrows Dam and Reservoir and does not include the

24,500 acre-feet of divertib1e return flows. In its most recent

evaluation (December, 1981), the 8ureau of Reclamation has

allocated 108,000 acre-feet to irrigation use and 25,000

acre-feet to municipal an~ industrial use.

-3-
