<br />OOlHJ23 <br /> <br />BUFORD-TRENTOn PROJECT (lg) <br /> <br />Descrintion: This project is located in Williams County in north- <br />western North Dakota and was constructed for irrigation of approximate- <br />ly 14,000 acres of bottom lands along the Missouri River by pumping. <br /> <br />Program FY48 ($67.000): Work includes the completion of repairs <br />on the mai.n canal system resulting from encroachment by the Missouri <br />River. <br /> <br />Accomplishments FY48: A section of the mai.n canal was relocated <br />and is now functioning satiafactorily. Costs to June 30, 1948 were <br />$38,809. <br /> <br />CANNONBALL UNIT (17) <br /> <br />Description: The Cannonball Unit consists of Cannonball and <br />Thunder Hawk Dams and irrigation facilities for 17,750 acres of land. <br />Cannonball Dam will be an earthfill structure 100 feet high and 3,900 <br />feet long, and the reservoir will have a capacity of 40,000 acre-feet. <br /> <br />Program FY48 ($407.700): Construction of Cannonball Dam is <br />scheduled to start in June 1948; designs and specifications will be <br />completed and invitations to bid will be issued in }1arch 1948. Con- <br />struction of the Government camp is scheduled to begin in March 1948. <br /> <br />Accomplishments FY48: The datlsite surveys have been completed <br />and the exploration program is essentially complete. Son~ construc- <br />tion is underway on the Government camp by Government forces. Designs <br />and specifications were delayed somewhat due to consideration of al- <br />ternate locations of the damsite but are now nearing completion. <br />Costs to June 30, 1~48 were $247,171. <br /> <br />HCREAU RIVER (BIXBY) UNIT (20) <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />Description: Bixby Dam will be located a short distance below <br />the confluence of north and south forks of the Moreau River, about 35 <br />miles northwest of Faith, South Dakota. The dam will be an earthfill <br />structure about 90 feet high, and will provide storage of approxi- <br />mately 90,000 acre-feet. <br /> <br />Program FY48 ($500.000): Completion of designs and specifica- <br />tions for Bixby Dam were programmed for Harch 1948 with award for <br />con.struction scheduled in May 1948. Designs and specifications for <br />the access road were scheduled for completion in February 1948 with <br />an award in March.
