Representa- <br />tives of the Bureau and the District Board agreed that discussions of <br />monetary obligations should be delayed until all questions regarding <br />the form of contract could be settled. Approximately 66 percent of <br />the acroage and 61 percent of the landowners had signed the petition <br />for organization of an Irrigation District in Kansas. Preconstruction <br />surveys have been deferred pending outcome of repayment negotiations. <br />Costs to June 30, 1948 were $394,884. <br /> <br />MmAGE FLATS PROJECT (15) <br /> <br />Description: . Mirage Flats is located in northwestern Nebraska <br />in the Niobrara River Basin. Irrigation water will be supplied for <br />12,000 acres of land lying south of Hay Springs, Nebraska. Construc- <br />tionof this project began under the WCU program in January 1941. <br />The principal feature is Box Butte Dam ~ocated on the Niobrara River <br />north of Alliance. The dam is an earthfill structure 87 feet high <br />with 8 crest length of 5,508 feet. Capacity is 31,300 acre-feet. <br /> <br />Program FY48 ($;1.48.400): The program includes work by Govern- <br />ment forces on Box Butte Dam and the irrigation and drainage system. <br /> <br />Accomt)11shments FY48: Government forces completed Horn drain <br />excavation, Bray lateral siphon, and placed ripr$p on the upstream <br />slope of Box Butte Dam.
