The report <br />was partially completed. <br /> <br />BELIE FOURCHE PROJECT <br /> <br />Description: Construction of the project was completed 1908. <br />Project lands located in South Dakota surrounding the Town of Newell <br />are irrigated by diversion from the Belle Fourche River by means of a <br />dam 1-1/2 miles below Belle Fourche. Storage is provided in Belle <br />Fourche Reservoir, capacity 177,500 acre-feet. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />Program FY49 <br /> <br />Funds available, rj27,Cf73. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />A contract was to be awarded <br />for repair and replacement of <br />outlet works in Belle Fourche <br />Dam. <br /> <br />Accomplishments FY49 <br />Costs to June 30, $5,358. <br /> <br />Plans have been completed and a <br />contract awarded for materials for <br />the rehabilitation works. <br /> <br />GRAND RIVER UNIT <br /> <br />Description: The development plan for the Basin will provide ir- <br />rigation for approximately 24,000 acres of land in the main stream <br />valley in Perkins and Corson Counties, South Dakota, and will benefit <br />Standing Rock Indian Reservation. The conservation and control system <br />incl1.\des Shadehill and Blue Horse Dams. <br /> <br />Shadehill Dam is located below the junction of the north and south <br />forks of the Grand River near the Town of Shadehill. The dam will be <br />an earthfill structure, with a crest length of 12,840 feet. It is to <br />be 118 feet above the stream bed and will impound 465,000 acre-feet, of <br />which 61,000 acre-feet are conservation storage and 79,000 acre-feet <br />will be for dead storage and silt control. The remaining 325,000 acre- <br />feet will provide flood control for the river basin and super-storage <br />capacity necessary to reduce spillway requirements. An outlet canal <br />beginning at the dam will irrigate 9,600 acres of land extending 30 <br />miles to the east along the north side of the river. <br /> <br />47 <br />
