<br />YELLCMSTONE Pln-U'ING UNIT <br /> <br />Description: Yellowstone Pumping Units, 26 in number, are scat- <br />tered along the river in southeastern Montana. These units comprise <br />a total of 94,460 acres of irrigable land, with individual units <br />ranging in size from 350 acres to 14,600 acres. Each unit will be <br />irrigated from an individual system supplied by a pumping plant, lift- <br />ing water from the Yellowstone River or from existing canals heading <br />in the Yellowstone River. Pumping lifts vary from 20 to 185 feet. <br /> <br />Program FY49 <br />Funds available, $694,527. <br /> <br />Construction was scheduled to <br />start on Savage and Cartwright <br />Units. <br /> <br />Accomplishments FY49 <br />Costs to June 30, $447,472. <br /> <br />Award was made for construction of <br />Savage Unit on lmrch 31, 1949, and <br />work was 38 percent complete on <br />June 30. Wo construction was under- <br />taken on Cartwright. <br /> <br />BOS'l\HCK UNIT <br /> <br />Description: The Bostwick Unit is located in south-central Ne- <br />braska and north-central Kansas. The approximate 90,000 acres of unit <br />lands consist, in part, of a strip of valley lands from one-half to <br />three miles wide and, in part, of table lands in compact areas south- <br />east of Superior, Nebraska, and in the vicinity of Courtland, Kansas, <br />all along the Republican River. <br /> <br />Harlan County Dam and Reservoir are under construction by the <br />Corps of Engineers, Department 'of the Army. The dam,' located just be- <br />low the confluence of Prairie Dog Creek with the Republican River, will <br />provide 850,000 acre-feet of storage capacity, allocated to the fol- <br />lowing purposes: silt retention, 200,000; irrigation, 150,000; and <br />flood control, 500,000. <br /> <br />Program FY49 <br />Funds available, 01,499,001. <br /> <br />Construction was scheduled to <br />start on the Superior-Courtland <br />and Republic Diversion Dam and <br />on the Superior and Courtland <br />Canals. <br /> <br />AccOlllplishments FY49 <br />Costs to June 30, ~640,019. <br /> <br />Construction was started on the <br />Superior-Courtland Diversion Dam <br />and on Superior Canal. An addi- <br />tional contract was awarded for <br />Superior Canal and Pawnee Lake <br />wasteway. <br /> <br />44 <br />
