Nearly all <br /> <br />comments were negative regarding specific sites. the Denver Growth issue, <br /> <br />the Bureau of Reclamation, or the Denver Water Board. <br /> <br />When residents of the three prospective reservoir areas become aware <br /> <br />of the situation in February, they insisted upon Committee membership, <br /> <br />and a representative and alternate from each area became members of the <br /> <br />Steering Committee in March and the Executive Committee in May 1974. <br /> <br />The West Plum area residents were most active in terms of expressing oppo- <br /> <br />sition, through a petition signed by 1,022 citizens, a newsletter distributed <br /> <br />throughout the area, and a ttendance at public information meetings by many <br /> <br /> <br />-~~:.' <br /> <br />residents of the area. <br /> <br />Representatives of the Bureau of Reclamation and the Denver Water <br /> <br />Department made special presentations to combined meetings of the Planning <br /> <br />Commissions and Boards of County Commissioners in Douglas and Tefferson <br /> <br />Counties. The Douglas County meeting attracted 350 persons , and 150 <br /> <br />persons attended the Tefferson County meeting. <br /> <br />An extensive letter writing and telephone campaign was organized, be- <br /> <br />ginning in February 1974, by residents and landowners in the three pro spec- <br /> <br />tive reservoir areas, and by citizens and environmental groups throughout <br /> <br /> <br />the area. Recipients included the Denver Water Board, the Bureau of Reclama- <br /> <br />tion, other Federal agencies, the Governor and State executive agencies, <br /> <br />State legislators, Steering Committee members indiVidually, and members <br /> <br />of the Colorado congressional delegation.
