0028s~

C, Public Participation

The broadly based Committee membership includes members from

many citizen and environmental groups, as well as representatives of

local public agencies. Though not included until midway in the process,

representatives from the three areas considered as alternative reservoir

sites were included as Committee members. A new member of the

Committee was added as late as May, 1974.

After the Bureau and the other agencies had completed sufficient
. .

analysis to make a public presentation worthwhile, the public was

invited to attend a Steering Committee meeting on January 29, 1974

,*,,,,,g!?,~:~
"lvj;~~'.;'-i.~~.J1}.~~

as the first public information meeting. The 125 persons present

were too many for the meeting room, and it was decided to have another,

or second public information meeting on February'21, 1974, This meeting

was attended by approximately 390 persons, largely compri.sed of

reservoir area residents or landowners.

When the Bureau and agencies had completed their analysis and

comparison, and were prepared to present the findings and recommendations,

the third public information meeting was held at the Bear Creek High School

on June l3, 1974. Between 650 and 700 persons attended this meeting,

about 75% of them from the three prospective reservoir areas. The Governor,

through a spokesman, stated his oppos ition to all, or any, of the proposed

dam or reservoir sites, and three other elected officials stated th'eir oppo-

sition as well. Representatives of the three possible reservoir areas, as

members of the Steering Committee, were also asked to speak before gen-

era I comments and questions.

-5-

~.:;.-....{. 1__~.,:.:--.'
.
