<br />Of'- ~'O , J <br />U C. 0 Ii: "~ <br /> <br />The Committee expressed a d.esLre to visit the prospective reservoir <br /> <br />sites, and, though the Ferndale possibility was tena.tive at the time, <br /> <br />a field trip to the three areas was arranged for September 12,. 1973. <br /> <br />Twelve <br /> <br />non-federal Steering Committee members participated in the day long trip. <br /> <br />In addition to visiting the sites, three other matters were of special interest <br /> <br />to the Committee, and arrangements were made for special presentations. <br /> <br />These included discussion of the need for the project, by the Denver Water <br /> <br />Department; potential use of Chatfield Dam for M&l Water storage, <br /> <br />by.the Corps of Engineers; and the need for the Strontia Springs facility,. <br /> <br />When the three major reservoir sites were selected as alternatives <br /> <br /> <br />by the Denver Water Department. <br /> <br />the Committee's considerations changed from one of relatively objective <br /> <br />and constructive discussion to a more adversary process. <br /> <br />Though the <br /> <br />Committee had previously agreed not to base its discussions on the <br /> <br />metropolitan Denver area growth question, newer committee members <br /> <br />insisted on discussing this matter, as well as the disadvantages of each <br /> <br />of the three proposed dam sites. <br /> <br />At its June to, 1974 meeting, the ::Steering Committee decided to prepare <br /> <br />a report describing its activities, rather than formally taking a position on <br /> <br />one or another of the alternatives. <br /> <br />Ma ny members desired, however, to <br /> <br />express their opinions, and Section rr and the Appendix of the Steering <br /> <br />Committes's Report were provided as vehicles for this purpose...
