The gravity division of the <br /> <br />Grand Valley Project is one of 123 districts throughout the 17 <br /> <br />western states selected for study. Rinckel stated t~at the land <br /> <br />'. <br /> <br />tenure survey is to gather information from Otvners and operators <br /> <br />re~eiving Hater from the Government Highline Canal concerning <br /> <br />quantity of land owned and/or leased, ownership and operations <br /> <br />arrangements, residency, and the nature of farm operations. <br /> <br />The survey is being conducted for the Bureau of Reclamation <br /> <br />by the Economics, Statistics, and Cooperatives Services of the <br /> <br />Department of Agriculture. Individual questionnaires will be <br /> <br />reviewed and computerized by the Colorado Crop and Livestock <br /> <br />Reporting Service. To provide for confidentiality, names and <br /> <br />addresses \vill De eliminated prior to computerization. <br /> <br />The Reclamation Act of 1902 provided certain restrictions on <br /> <br />farm size and residency. The purposes of these restrictions were <br /> <br />to promote the family farm, provide benefits of Reclamation <br /> <br />irrigation ~'ater to a maximum number of farmers, preclude <br /> <br />speculative gain in disposition of excess lands, and to provide <br /> <br />sound repaJ~ent preactices from the water recipients. <br />
