Upper Provo
River
Reservoirs

The existing upper Provo River
Reservoirs consist of 15 lakt's
clustered together within a
4.-mile radius at the headwaters
of the Provo Ri\"er in the Uinta
Mountains, about 55 miles east
of Salt Lake City. .\fast of these
lakes afe within a 2-hour drive
from any city along the Wasatch
Front. JordanelIe Reservoir,
Dam and Power Plant will be
located on the river roughly
25 miles west of these lakes,
about 6 miles north of Iieber
City.

Between 1914and 1935,pri-
vate irrigation companies con.
structed dams on these natural
lakes, converting them to reser-
voirs and enlarging their storage
capacities. Drastic fluctuations
in water le\'e1s of the reservoirs
due to irrigation deawdowns
has inhibited their fishery, re-
creation and esthetic potential.
Twelve of the 15 reservoirs will
be stabilized at surface levels
to enhance their recreation and
fisher)" value by transferring
their irrigation storage to Jotdan-
dIe Reservoir. The remaining
three reservoirs, Big Elk, Trial
and Wall Lakes, will continue
to fluctuate to provide irrigation
water to the Francis and Kamas
lands. which are located abov/:
the Jordanelle Reservoir.

TIlE 15 LAKES
Upper Provo River
Reservoirs

Big Elk
Crystal
Duck
Fire
Island
Long
Lost
Marjorie

Pot
Star
Teapot
Trial
Wall
Washington
Weir
