Construction of a reach of <br /> <br />the channelization in conjunctit;>n with the local protection project at La <br /> <br />......... <br />~::..:.~~i.~j: <br />~~;i.~..:.~.j <br /> <br />Junta could be used by these interests for such studies. The most appro- <br /> <br />priate reach for the above purposes is considered to be the 7-mile reach <br /> <br />from the mouth of Timpas Creek to the local protection project at La Junta <br /> <br />l-,....: <br /> <br />and would include: levees with tiebacks and lands ide drains of sufficient <br /> <br />.:~.:>' <br />;,'>"'~.-..' <br />:.".: <,~~":' <br />....">..'.'. <br /> <br />length to test the water salvage capabilities in the rural area, and one <br /> <br />-, <br /> <br />;;.'<.;t,.~ <br /> <br />OxbOW fishery and an area suitable for wildlife management studies. The Board believed. however, <br /> <br />that the decision to construct this reach of channelization should be left to <br /> <br />\'tw..... <br />'_"J' <br />'; ":~l~~, <br /> <br />~tN~ <br /> <br />the discretion of the Chief of Engineers at the time the j>lan of study has been <br /> <br />developed for the environmental impact study. <br /> <br />With regard to Fountain Dam and Lake the Board noted that the South <br /> <br />Central Regional Director of the Federal Water Pollution Control Admlnistra- <br /> <br />tlon has indicated that a cursory examination of the stream quality condition <br /> <br />at Fountain Dam and Lake site reveals a potential problem of serious conse- <br /> <br />,,/" <br /> <br />quences.
