<br />-," <br /> <br />.~ n.~"'" <br />1 ~ ,) oJ <br /> <br />BIDS SOUGHT FOR AQUEDUCT PROJECTS <br /> <br />The Department advertised for bids for the excavation of <br />the Delta Pumping Plant and a l~-mile stretch of the Delta Intake <br />Channel of the California Aqueduc,t.. <br />The work, estimated at about $9 million, will take place <br /> <br />in Alameda'and Contra Costa counties., <br /> <br />NEW CHIEF NAMED <br /> <br />Wesley E.Steiner, Jr., was named as chief of the <br />Department's engineering management and coordination office" a <br />branch of the Office of Chief Engineer. He succeeded Joseph I. <br />Burns, who resigned to work for a U. S. engineering firm on a <br />reclamation project in East Pakistan. <br /> <br />EXPERTS RETAINED TO STUDY WORK-FLOW SYSTEM <br /> <br />Management' Systems Corp., of Cambridge, Mass. " , was <br />retained to help develop improved management technique's for the <br />Department's technical engineering work flow system. <br />The company, under a $30,000 contract, will develop <br />operating procedures designed to improve the effectiveneSS of the- <br />Department's "critical path" method of scheduling design and <br />construction of water facilities. <br /> <br />ALLIS-CHALMERS SECURES TURBINE CONTRACT <br /> <br />A $7,238,791 contract was awarded to Allis-Chalmers <br />Mfg. Co. of York, Pa.; for furnishing and installing the first units <br />in the Oroville Dam power plant of the State Water Project -- three <br />turbines and three pump-turbines. <br />The work is scheduled for completion in January, 1969. <br /> <br />-2- <br />
