Warne, Director <br /> <br />REPORT TO THE GOVERNOR I S COUNCIL FOR <br />MAY, 1 9 6 3 <br /> <br />CONTRACT FOR POWER PLANT AWARDED <br /> <br />A $18,366,780.50 contract for the excavation and con- <br />struction of the Oroville Dam power plant was awarded to McNamara <br />Corp., Ltd., and George A. Fuller Co., a joint venture, of <br />Burlingame. i'The completion date for the job will be about May, 1966. <br />SOIL MOISTURE'CONTENT STUDY BEGINS <br /> <br />A study of the soil moisture content of the Sacramento- <br />San Joaquin Delta lowlands was begun during the month by the <br />Department. <br />About 500 lightweighV tubes, six feet iong, will be in- <br />stalled in scattered locations over approximately 400,000 acres of <br />the Delta. Engineers will check each location monthly to determine <br /> <br />its soil moisture content. <br /> <br />WATER WELL CONTRACT AWARDED <br />A $160,657 contract was awarded to Midway Drilling and <br />Pump Co., Saticoy, for drilling and developing two 16-inch water <br />wells to allow for preconsolidation work on the California Aqueduct <br />in Kern County. <br />Water will be pumped from the wells into settling ponds <br /> <br />to allow for compaction of the loose ground in subsidence areas <br /> <br />through which the aqueduct will pass. <br /> <br />( OVER) <br />
