This
method involved a very large mimber of starts and stops for the
pumps, which was considered detrimental to the equipment and
it seriousiy interfered with the delivery of power to Phoenix.
Th.e operating schedule adopted for the immediate future is to
pump continuously at all plants for a sufficient number of days
each month to deliver the required quantity of water and let the
pumps stand idle the remainder of the time.
The organization required by this program includes 63 men on
operation and maintenance of the pumping plants, 12 men on the
maintenance and patrol of the transmission line, and 3 employees
at the La Verne telephone exchange. This force provides for con-
tinuous attendance at all plants with one-man shifts, continuous
dispatching and telephone service, patrol of transmission and tele-
phone lines, and maintenance of all equipment in plants, lines and
camps. Messes and dormitories are operated at Gene and Iron
Mountain camps. The field supervisory force consists of a field
superintendent and one clerk. A speciai agent is located at Gene
camp and a first-aid nurse at Iron Mountain.
The following tabulation shows, for the fiscal year July I, 1940
to June 30, 1941, the pump-hours of operation, the energy trans-
mitted from Boulder over District transmission iines and used
for pumping and camp services or delivered to others, and the
acre feet of water pumped.

PLA~T
Intake ".. .................__u
Gene ...........
Iron .....................
Eagle ...~...._
Hayfield

PUMP HOURS
OF OPERATION

WATER PUMPED
ACRE-FEET
86,408
71,347
55,78.,
55,014
55,269

KWHRS.
