Improper opera- <br />tion of the motor brakes at Iron ~Iountain was corrected. All <br />delivery pipes were unwatered and theil' interior coatings repaired <br />where slight breaks had heen caused Ly installation of salt-velocity <br />testing equipment. The lifting nuts in the six discharge valves <br />at Eagle and Hayfield were found to be defective, and replacements <br />were furnished by the manufacturers and installed by the District <br />in August 19-10, Difficulties with discharge valves at Intake and <br />Gene are unrier discussion with the manufacturers. <br />One of the main power transforme,.s at Hayfield was t.aken out <br />of service in )Iay 1940, following the discovery of a defecti\'e <br />grounding connecti011 between the core and frame which had re- <br />sulted in damage to the core. The spare transformer for Eagle <br />)Iountain and Hayfield plants was placed in service and the dam- <br />aged transfonner dismantled. The transformers at the other <br />plants were inspected and, with the cooperation of the manufac- <br />turer. steps were taken to prevent similar trouble. )faterial for <br />extensive repairs to the lIa~.field transformer has been ordered <br />and will be installf:'d by the manufacturer as soon as re<.'eked. <br />In June 19tO the pumpiuK plants were closed to all visitors ex- <br />cept those havin~ passes issued by the Los An~eles office.
