.

.

storage facilities making up each alternative project will be
determined, and through the model, prioritized use of natural
and stored flows will be determined. Economic factors, applied
through the model, will indicate the relative economic effect-
iveness of the several alternative projects. This process, in-
cluding the previous screening, will be an iterative plan for-
mulat~on process. As various alternative projects are evaluated,
it is anticipated that modifications may be made in :he combina-
tion of facilities making up an alternative project, necessitat-
ing a reevaluation of the alternative project. Dependent on the
results of the evaluation, some alternative projects may be
dropped and others may be considered for evaluation. Close coor-
dination will be maintained ~ith the CWCB to insure that the pro-
ject or projects considered are compatible with the desires and
aims of the state.
The results of this evaluation will be finalized and a
candidate project or projects will be selected, in cooperation
with the CWCB, for further study at the reconnaissance level.
The process of identif.ying, selecting, and evaluating the
candidate project or proje~ts, will be document@d in an interim
report and submitted to th~ CWCB.

PHASE IV: RECONNAISSANCE PLAN FOID1ULATION
Once a candidate project or projects are selected, addi-
tional data will be sought out or generated as required.
A more intense evaluation of geological conditions at the
sites of existing and proposed facilities that make up the can-
didate plan will be conducted. This evaluation will be made
using existing data but will be more intense and in-depth than
the investigation that was performed in the preliminary stages,
and will include a reconnaissance level assessment of foundation
conditions, seepage, and sedimentation.
The hydrologic studies performed during the previous phase
will be reviewd and refined in order to make them commensurate
with reconnaissance level of study, considering reservoir yield,

II~6

-
