The project
is located entirely within the State of Colorado. It is planned as a
multiple-purpose development which will serve the functions of irriga-
tion, municipal and industrial water supply, power, flood control,
fish and wUdlife, recreation, and sediJoont control.

As the project involves translllOuntain diversion of water,
features are required on both the east and west slopes of the
Continental Divide. Surplus water from the Colorado River Basin will
be diverted for beneficial and consumptive uses in the Arkansas River
Basin in Colorado. The imported water together with regulation of
IlAtive Arkansas River water will provide supplemental irrigation
supplies, municipal and industrial water, and enable power genera-
tion. 1100d control will be provided by the terminal eastern slope
reservoir above Pueblo, Colorado.

Ruedi Dam and Reservoir on the Fryingpan River, with a
storage capacity of about 100,000 acre-feet, will provide replacement
water on the western slope. In previous plans the replacement water
was proVided in Aspen Reservoir with 28,000 acre-feet of capacity.
The additional capacity at Ruedi will serve other benefic:Lal Uses on
the western slope in Colorado.

The potential Fryingpan-Arkansas Project includes the fol-
lowing principal features:

(a) A system of about 70 miles of canals and tunnels
on the western slope for colleoting and transporting water
from Hunter Creek and tributaries of the Fryingpan River.

(b) Ruedi Ie.m and Reservoir with a capacity of about
100,000 acre-feet, on the lTyingpan River 14 miles above
Basalt, to provide replacement water and water for other
beneficial western slope uses.

(c) The 5.3-11I11e Fryingpan-Arkansas transl1lOuntain
diversion tunnel.
