and when these fishes utilize the Price River.

III. study Goals. Objectives, End Product:

The overall goals of this study are to determine if or how extensively
the endangered fishes utilize the Price River, and to determine the
biological importance of the Price River to the Green River system and
recovery of the endangered fishes.

Objectives:

1. systematically survey the Price River in 1996 and 1997 to
determine if adult and/or juvenile endangered fishes (particularly
Colorado squawfish and razorback sucker) are present; if adults
are present, determine if they utilize the Price River for
spawning.

2, systematically survey the Price River in 1996 and 1997 to
determine if age-Q endangered fish (if the Price River is utilized
for spawning) remain in low-velocity habitats in the Price River
or move downstream into the Green River.

3, Systematically survey the lower Price River (within the high water
inundation area of the Green River) in 1996 and 1997 to determine
if mainstem adult Colorado squawfish utilize the Price River as a
staging/resting area associated with spawning and determine if
drifting age-O Colorado squawfish from Desolation/Gray Canyons
utilize the lower Price River for nursery habitat.

4. Determine if the physical, chemical and biological attributes of
the Price River are suitable for the endangered fishes.

5. Determine the biological importance (as compared to other
tributaries of the Green River) of the Price River to the Green
River system.

IV. Description of past performance on this or similar projects:

similar information was synthesized for the White River project.

v. Study area (river miles, if appropriate) :

Price River from Grassy trail Creek, UT downstream to the confluence with
the Green River.

VI, Study Methods/Approach:

Objectives 1-4 will be addressed with surveys of the Price River in 1996
and 1997, In 1996, all available information on the Price River will be
located {Ohjectives 4 and 5) and summarized with the first summer of
biological data in a report, We will tie this report into the Flaming
Gorge synthesis, After the second year of the study, a completion
report will be finished that will include a synthesis of the 2 years of
biological data collected in Objectives 1-4 and a synthesis of all
available historical information (Objectives 4 and 5) .

Obiective 1.

The Price River will be sampled from runoff through the estimated
spawning season. This will constitute three sampling trips (pre-runoff,
runoff, and post-runoff). Each trip will require approximately 7
sampling days, All sampling trips will begin near Grassy trail Creek and
sampling will proceed downstream to the confluence with the Green River
