the necessary equipment, becoming familiar with that equipment,

setting up and identifying the direction of the M&E program for the

McElmo Creek unit.

1. A comprehensive background investigation was completed of

the McElmo Creek unit, the soil surveys of the area, the type of

crops grown, the climatic zone variation, the common type of

existing irrigation systems, and the type of systems being planned

under contracts.

2. Selection of sites with no improvements installed is very

difficult. The fields are irregularly shaped, fields are

corrugated, slopes are not uniform, water may be delivered to a

field by one or more delivery ditches, tailwater may leave the

field at several different points, and water may flow across the

field in several different directions.

3. The sites with improvements installed will be easier to

monitor. The main improvement is the installation of a side-roll

sprinkler system that can be monitored with the use of an inline

flowmeter with a recording gauge.

4. An Agreement Sheet was developed, for the Monitoring

sitesr describing the responsibilities of the Landowner and the

Soil conservation Service.

001966
