<br />l\) <br />~ <br />C) USBR Salinity Control Program <br />C) <br /> <br />Construction of the salinity projects authorized by <br /> <br /> <br />Title II or their equivalents is necessary to maintain <br /> <br /> <br />salinity in the lower mainstem of the Colorado River at or <br /> <br />below the 1972 levels while the Basin states continue to <br />develop their compact-apportioned waters. <br />Paradox Valley Unit - The Bureau of Reclamation completed <br />the Definite Plan Report on the Paradox Valley Unit on Jan- <br />uary 24, 1979. The Environmental Statement for the Unit was <br />filed with the Environmental Protection Agency on March 20, <br /> <br />1979. <br /> <br />A pump-testing program is underway to determine the <br />amount of pumping required to control the salt discharge into <br />the Dolores River. The information from the on-going test <br />program will be used to size pumping, pipe and disposal facil- <br />ities. A pilot hydrogen sulfide stripping plant has been <br />undergoing testing since October 1978. <br />Construction funding for the Paradox Valley Unit for F.Y. <br />1979 was $2,358,000. Administration recommendations for F.Y. <br />1980 funding was $3,175 milUon. Appropriations have been <br />made for F.Y. 1980 of $3.163 mi.llion. <br /> <br />Grand Valley Unit,- The Bureau of Reclamation anticipated <br />initiati.ng construction on Stage I canal lining at the end of <br />the 1979 irrigation season. On May 7, 1979, the Department <br /> <br />of the Interior advised Congress of proposed changes in the <br /> <br /> <br />Grand Valley Unit pllrsuant t,o Section 208 of P.L. 93-320. <br /> <br />q <br /> <br />j,. -"~ <br />
