stations 06707500 and 06764000, respectively (Table 1). In

addition, that part of the Republican River basin which is

located within the State of Colorado east and south of the

South Platte River basin will be included (Figure 1), insofar

as management alternatives might be considered for export of

water from the South Platte River basin to the Republican River

basin.

APPROACHES

Five major activities will be performed in conducting this

study. These activities are maintained as discrete

identifiable work tasks for execution of the project. Briefly,

these activities include: (1) streamflow characterization of

the South Platte River system; (2) recommendation of criteria

to measure impacts; (3) preliminary analysis of alternatives;

(4) preliminary impact evaluation and alternative comparison;

and (5) detailed evaluation of a final set of alternatives by

repeating activities 3 and 4. A discussion of the study time

schedule, participation in meetings and identified report

products is also given in this plan of study.

Flow Characterization (Task I)

The purpose of characterizing the streamflows of the South

Platte River is to describe the temporal and spatial distribu-

tion of surface waters within the study area. The flow

characterization of the South Platte River system will involve

use of historical streamflow records, available principally

-3-
