<br />~ <br />= <br />c <br />('l"; <br /> <br />c <br /> <br />WORK ELEMENT #6 <br /> <br />;j~?j <br />"","-" <br /> <br />The Flood Insurance Study contract for the Colorado River should <br />be reviewed to determine if existing topographic data can be used <br />rather than generating new data and use the money saved to include <br />additional study areas along the Colorado River. <br /> <br />Background: Existinq u.s. Army Corps of Engineer's topographic <br />information was used for the Flood Insurance Study for the City of <br />Yuma, areas within Yuma County and the Parker Strip area of La Paz <br />County. This same topographic information is available for the , I <br />areas of the Colorado River where a study contract is under con- <br />sideration; however, it is believed that the, study contractor is <br />proposing to generate new photography instead of using the available <br />data. The money saved could be used to study additional areas <br />along the Colorado River. <br /> <br />Action Agency: <br /> <br />Federal Emergency Management Agency <br /> <br />Financing: <br /> <br />Federal Emergency Management Agency, Flood <br />Insurance Study (no additional funds are anti- <br />cipated) <br /> <br />Schedule: <br /> <br />All actions must be completed by September 30, <br />1983 <br /> <br />,'~~~;J) <br /> <br />WORK ELEMENT #7 <br /> <br />The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the State floodplain <br />management coordinators w~ll work closely w~th the attected counties <br />alUi-citIes to assure compl~ance w~th the Nat~onal Flood Insurance <br />Proqram placinq special emphasis on the followinq requirements: <br /> <br />a) repairinq substantially damaqed structures <br />b) replacing structures <br />c) --u5eof best available information <br /> <br />Background: During non-flooding times, counties and cities seldom <br />have an occasion to implement the requirements of the National <br />Flood Insurance Program that: <br /> <br />a) substantial improvements of structures in zones AI-3D <br />meet the same elevation or floodproofing standard required <br />for new construction <br />b) when base flood elevation data is not included on a Flood <br />Hazard Boundary Map or a Flood Insurance Rate Map, the com- <br />munity shall gbtain, review and reasonably utilize any <br />base flood elevation data available from a federal, state <br />of other source. <br /> <br />In a post flood situation, many buildings fall into these ;categories <br /> <br />22 <br />
